FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 14, 2021
The Champaign County Freedom Celebration (CCFC) is excited to announce that we will host FIREWORKS on Sunday, July 4th, 2021, at 9:15 pm. There will not be a 5K Walk/Race, Parade, food vendors or entertainment this year. And, unfortunately, no rain date will be scheduled.
The Champaign County Freedom Celebration started in 1949 and could not happen without the support of our community, including the University of Illinois, City of Urbana, City of Champaign, all local Police and Fire Departments, Public works, Corporate Sponsors, Volunteers and Support from citizens like you!
Due to the limited timeframe of the event, vendors, trash cans, potty houses, etc. will not be available. Please see below for additional event details:
o We encourage patrons to park on the shoulders of surrounding streets, such as Windsor & 4th Ave to enable easy egress after the fireworks.
o Surrounding parking lots on campus will be open per the standard weekend parking guidelines.
o Fireworks Location will be held at E-14 University of IL Campus – between Kirby Ave, Oak St, St. Mary’s Rd and First Street.
• RADIO BROADCAST
o 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm on July 4th – please turn your radio to 97.5 FM & WKI0107.9 FM and 1400 WDWS NewsTalk AM
o During this time, listen to a SPECIAL Pre-Recorded PROGRAM called – “C-U STARS” – LOCAL BANDS – some who made it big time (Allison Krauss & Union Station, REO Speed Wagon, Tons ‘O Fun Band to name a few) for people of all ages to enjoy.
o A synchronized fireworks playlist will begin at approximately 9:15 pm
• GET INVOLVED
o Individuals and Families: This event could not happen without the commitment from the community to donate and raise funds. At least $60,000 is needed to cover costs associated with insurance, fireworks, logistics and other misc. expenses this year.
o Corporate Sponsors: We cannot do this without our Corporate Sponsors and your community contributions to fund this event each year. We always need to secure funding a year in advance so the dollars you give this year will ensure the committee will be able to fund this event next year and so on. Our sponsor listing is included.
